We are going to the highest point of the island (1,105 m), where we have a privileged view over the whole island, on days with little cloudiness, or even a mystic experience in the Azores\u2019 mists. On this hike, which crosses a Nature Reserve and a Protected Area for the Management of Habitats and Species, we will be travelling through a dirt trail with a landscape of great diversity, starting in a naturally shaded and flavoured Japanese cedarwood (Cryptomeria japonica<\/em>) forest. We will then be passing through a typical mountain route in the Azores, with ground vegetation. This is an area with extremely rich biodiversity, that is very important for the recovery of the Laurissilva forest and the Priolo (Pyrrhula Murina), one of the few species of endemic fauna in the Azores. The majority of the route is easy to circulate, although there are some sections with greater demand due to the gain in elevation. We will be getting back through the same trail, which can be slippery, especially during Wintertime. After the hike, we will be going to the Ribeira dos Caldeir\u00f5es Natural Park to enjoy, in a more relaxed way, the beauty of the natural waterfalls and of the old watermills.<\/p>\n
